What Is Museum-Grade Furniture Repair?
Museum-grade furniture repair or refinishing mean that the furniture is being repaired to the highest possible standards, with the best possible products or ingredients that are a close match to the original ones, and using the best possible tools to approach how the furniture was made originally.
In order to repair furniture to a museum-grade level, a woodworker must understand how the furniture was made originally and with what products. The woodworker would also have to be extremely skilled and very experienced.
The reason why museum-grade furniture repair is at such a high standard is because when the repair is complete, the furniture should look just it looked when it was first made and any repaired areas need to match exactly those areas that are still intact. The repaired areas may not be invisible to the naked eye, but they will be almost invisible or visible only to the trained eye.
One of the big parts of museum-grade refinishing or repair is that the repair does not diminish the value of the furniture. Lower grades of repair almost always reduce the value or your treasured item, and the repairs are also readily visible.
